Gel Coat Labs All Marine Hi-UV Vinyl Protectant
Keep exposed vinyl, rubber and
plastic marine surfaces "like new" year after year!
Product review by Terry Freiberg
Does the market need another
vinyl protectant? That's what I asked the good folks at Gel Coat Labs. Their
candid answer was, "Yes, if you own a watercraft." They explained
that, after reviewing all the marine, vinyl protectant products they could find, over half were developed a decade or more ago. They're obsolete.
They claim to protect against UV exposure but the technology they are using is
ineffective by today's standards. The other half of marine vinyl protectants are automotive formulas
repackaged for the marine market. They were not designed specifically for marine
use.
Like many of their other
products, Gel Coat Labs created All Marine Hi-UV Vinyl Protectant from a
clean sheet of paper, specifically for marine use. First, it contains Tinuvin
5151. This is a two stage, UV blocking molecule developed by Ciba Labs,
Switzerland. It is regarded, within the industry, as the state-of-the-art in UV
blocking technology. It is also the most expensive UV blocking ingredient in the
marketplace which is why it isn't used in most products. The second problem Gel
Coat Labs
looked at was bonding. The best UV blocking technology in the
world won't do you any good if it washes off with water! This is why most
automotive vinyl protectants are not good marine products. The environment that
boats operate in is totally different! On the water, you have constant water spray, often salt
water, radiant energy (heat) and the degradation of UV exposure.
| All Marine Hi-UV Vinyl
Protectant uses a proprietary bonding agent to keep the UV blocking molecules on
the surface. Once dry, it will not easily wash off. Used regularly, All Marine
Hi-UV Vinyl Protectant provides maximum protection against water, acid
rain, salt, insect residues, bird droppings and UV induced fading.
Use on marine
seating, vinyl cushions, vinyl bimini tops, inflatable boats, Hypalon, clear vinyl windows,
hatch seals, rubber and plastic. |
